Culling the Most Valuable Infant Bedding Sets for Your Nursery
A great way to spend your time during pregnancy is getting your nursery ready in anticipation of your little one. The most important piece in your baby’s room is the crib, and you can tie it all together by choosing the right crib bedding. You can use your creativity when exploring all the different themes for the bedding that are out there.
There are some things to be aware of when buying infant girl or baby bedding for boys. A baby’s safety is always number one but comfort is a close second. In order to reduce the risk of SIDS, many doctors recommend that no loose items be present in the crib. Suffocation is possible if your baby twists and turns into a position where his or her breathing is impeded.
Even newborns are capable of moving themselves around their crib, though they have minimal control. This way their movement becomes uneasy and they get either stuck to the corners or get rolled into a blanket. There should be very few items in the crib, so as to cut down on the risk of the baby moving against an object that can interfere with its breathing.
Crib bumpers should be avoided, they pose a risk of coming loose and covering a newborn’s face. The older cribs or the cot where the babies were kept had wide space to set on, so a bumper was required to maintain the baby from slipping through the side of the crib or cot. Now the new cribs have narrow space to set on so that the earlier problem is no longer a problem. Instead of using a loose comforter, consider using a wearable blanket, commonly known as a sleep sack. A sleep sack is almost like warm clothing to the baby and it helps the baby from getting suffocated. Finally, make sure the fitted sheet fits your crib mattress snugly.
You will want baby bedding that is comfortable and machine washable, and you should purchase extra baby bedding. Baby bedding needs to be continuously washed so be prepared with additional sets.
